Justify it
One of the main things I picked up from one of my teachers at school was justify changes.
He was a Design & Technology teacher, so when we were learning about things like Point-of-Sale packaging and marketting kind of things we would try and get us to justify what we were doing and how we were doing it.
Jason Fried mentions this over at Signal Vs Noise.
For every new feature you need to…
1. Come up with the concept.
2. Say no.
3. Force the feature to prove its value.
4. If “no” again, end here. If “yes,” continue…
I’m sure many people could save so much time by following those 4 steps alone. If you can’t justify the change, why waste time on it?
