Here comes my sports season
It may only be mid-February, but that means indoor training for Cricket is starting on Sunday!
8 weeks till the start of the league season for us I believe, so time to blow away the winter cobwebs and complain about how much my shoulder and legs hurts from bowling again.
I have been playing over the winter, in fact, I was volunteered as captain of the 2nd indoor team. Bit of an up and down winter, won some good games, lost some bad ones, but it’s been enjoyable, and helps us ease back into the full season better for having done it.
Really quite eager to get a proper cricket ball in my hands and be able to bowl from a proper run up though, the indoor league stuff just feels different and not as comfortable to me.
As a club, I’m hoping Wellington CC have a better year than last. We struggled with player numbers, due to bigger teams in the area soaking up a lot of people over the last few years.
We’ve got a young guy from South Africa coming to play for us this year though, which should be good. Apparently he’s been caled up to the South Africa Under 19’s, and spent some time bolwing at the full England team in the nets during the recent tour over there. So we’re quite pleased!
Also got a couple of other players joining the club, and hopefully a couple of others more availible, all in all, a better season I’m hoping.
I’ll be getting a taste of being the Sunday Friendly team vice-captain as well. Should be interesting. I play a lot of the Sunday games usually, and it’s an area of the game I could do with building on, hopefully this will help!
Anyway, enough of me rambling about cricket, the seasons not even started yet. Here’s to a continuation of my last couple of league games where I got my best ever bowling figures (6-18 from 12) and my best ever batting figures (60 not out, from about 8 overs!) in consecutive games! Unlikely but it’s something to aim for
