SXSW - Music and Web Design
What a combination of topics, Web design, and music. Two things I love and enjoy, always helps to have a bit of music playing while coding.
There are a lot of people in the design blogospehere on about the web side of the South by Southwest festival, and I’m currently listening to Radio1, who are there and talking about the music side of things, not heard to much crossover between the topics though, a shame, I know there are some big music fans through the web industry!
Some bands making it big now have been through the SXSW shows, Franz Ferdinand and Kasabian being two of them, and the amazing Willy Mason is getting more and more exposure over this side of the pond now because of it. So some really cool stuff going on.
This year there are bands like the Kaiser Cheifs and Futureheads (just released really good albums), Louis XIV and so many more.
There’s a fair bit, if not all of the Britpack over there on the web design side of things as well. From the look of Andy Budd’s descriptions, that’s also a lot of fun!
The panels by Eric Meyer and Tantek Çelik look very interesting, I’m deffinately going to have to have a closer look at them.
One last thing, there’s a HUGE amount of music freely downloadable by way of the SXSW site. A bunch of the bands performing have offered up a song for free download via the BitTorrent system. Have a look at the Fest4Pod page for details. it is huge though, nearly 800 songs availible.
(really wish they hadn’t just called it an iPod thing though! The update, which has fully downloaded, works fine on my iRiver player)
