Thinking about Users

Jeffrey Zelman talked yesterday about a subtle, but important, shift he spotted at SXSW, with designers and developers really thinking about the user a lot more.

This is great stuff. The comment about Flickr is a prime example.

For instance, when both teams reimagined Ludicorp Research’s Yahoo’s Flickr, the panelists in charge began by talking about why they loved the Flickr application — and then discussed (and executed) changes that could make Flickr even better from a user’s perspective.

Again, it’s part of this whole holistic kind of strategy that places like Cre8asite are promoting. And it seems people aren’t treating this as something new that they need to find out about, many of them seem to be nodding along in agreement.

Nobody on the panel and nobody in the audience thought twice about this user orientation. That is a profound change, and I hope it continues to spread.

I certainly hope it continues to spread as well :)
