Why am I in work?
A Bank Holiday, sunny weather, 3 cricket matches and drinking on a Monday night is not a good combination for working on the Tuesday morning.
Yesterday was baking hot, so I was quite thankfull that we batted first and I could lounge around in the sun for a while, before having to bowl later on when it wasn’t quite so intense. The only problem with that being, I’d already been out in the sun for 2 days, and though I’m not bright red, I have certainly caught the sun round my face and on my arms and legs where they were exposed. A lovely white line round my hair line joining my slightly red face, lovely!
Not too bad a weekend though. An annoying defeat on Saturday to a team that was only one point behind us. If we’d won that, and we really should have won it, we’d still be top of the league. Oh well, one of their guys batted very well and pretty much won it all on his own. Fair play to him, but I’m still annoyed.
Sunday was a bit better, a winning draw. Kind of a win, as we scored a lot more runs than them. But as we didn’t manage to get them all out, it ends up a draw because of the type of game we played. Other than some of their players being a bit arsey, it was a fun game though. Had a nice little slog towards the end of our innings, hitting 4 6’s as the bowlers didn’t realise that bowling straight to me isn’t always a good idea. Then we were looking in trouble whent heir opening batsmen starting hitting it all over the place, and I don’t think I would be too out of line in saying that it was when I started bowling that we got back in control. Really tatty ball, that was swinging nicely. They didn’t have much of an answer to some proper accurate bowling, especially whent he guy the other end started bowling better as well.
Then we went down to Exmouth yesterday for a friendly game after last years league match. Gloriously sunny day, we had a coach take us down, so several non-players joined us. Sunny Bank-holiday Monday’s generally mean beach towns like Exmouth are pretty busy. Hence we had to queue for about 35 minutes to get a portion of chips for lunch!
Lovely ground there, right on the seafront, though there are dunes between the pitch and the beach. Wonderful setting for a sunny days cricket, made even better by the fact we won well!
As it was a coach trip, and only a couple of people had to drive once we got back to Wellington, it meant most of us were then enjoying a few beers after the game. Followed by much singing on the coach on the way back. I think I got home at about midnight in the end.
So this morning I’m pretty tired, not feeling too bad from the drink, but not too great either, and I pretty much ache all over. So I’ll be great playing football this evening!
Does feel good to have a weekend of decent weather for all the cricket though, so can’t complain too much
