Write a virus, get a slap on the wrists…..

Well, that’s about all that happened to Sven Jaschan, the guy behind the Sasser and Netsky viruses.

Despite the proliferance of the worms, and amount of time and money it cost a lot of people, he’s been given an 21 month suspended jail sentence and 30hrs of community service.

Wow, I bet he regrets doing that now….

What is the point in that? He admitted to it all, and he still only gets that? They may as well have not even prosecuted him. It’s cost people everywhere enough money to deal with, not including the machines that are probably still infected by Netsky and one of it’s many many variants (some of which are still flying around the email system a fair bit), it’s cost them enough to track him down and arrest him, MS have paid out $500,000 to people for helping them catch him, and in the end he gets told to do 4 days work and not do it again for 21 months. Wow.

The RIAA are getting better results against people downloading a few songs, a completely harmless activity in comparison to writing malicious viruses.
