“Web 2.0″, why?
I hope I’m not the only one, but I really don’t get this whole “Web 2.0″ thing and why everyones going crazy over it.
Wow, so someone realised that having tools is one thing, but having tools that work easily, and work well is another thing, and suddenly having a more efficient tool means the web has moved on a version? Um, ok, can anyone say ’stupid buzzword’?
It seems AJAX seems at the centre of this web2.0 thing. Funny how people are still making Web1.0 mistakes with it.
AJAX is just JavaScript used in a specific way, JavaScript can be an absolute pain in the ass, people like to make all sorts of annoying bells and whistles with it that rank along side FLASH Intro’s with no skip button.
Take Google’s new RSS Reader. Have a long list of feeds and posts to read, you can’t simply scroll down that list, with a scroll bar or a wheel on a mouse, no, you have to click a ‘next 20′ link. So they have used JavaScript to replace existing functionality that worked perfectly well, and that I dind’t really want replaced thanks. That’s what I mean by making Web1.0 mistakes. JS can do nice things, but you have to consider if it’s actually the best way of doing something.
The web has evolved a great deal in the last 5 years, let alone the last 10 years and more, why Web 2.0 now? Huge changes have taken place in the past, yet that was still Web 1.0?
This is just a buzzword and a band wagon for people to jump on and use as a marketing tool, I’ve seen reports of ‘Bubble 2.0′ and how people are just spouting off how their product is so ‘Web 2.0′ and seeming to think that means it must be amazing and can make loads of money….
I’m not certain we are entering a Bubble 2.0 yet, but if people aren’t more repsonsible with terms like web 2.0 and AJAX, we will be…..
